How does ColoAlert® work?

In the colon, cells of the intestinal mucosa are continuously shed into the stool. In a patient with colorectal cancer, mutated cells are also shed into the stool. Human, bacterial and consumed food-derived DNA in the stool are extracted in the laboratory. Only human DNA is then specifically amplified and quantified by the laboratory.

Afterwards, this DNA is screened for oncogenic mutations. The ColoAlert® kit additionally includes the FIT for a more comprehensive screening profi- le.Thereby, ColoAlert is currently the most sensitive alternative to a colonoscopy that complies with the minimum specificity recommended by medical guidelines.
