Based on 2016 data there is a 56% overall uptake of FIT tests for NHS bowel Cancer screening. Research have identified several barriers to uptake
1. Fear and denial of the test results
2. Believing the test is not needed if have no symptoms
3. Concerns around the practicalities and cleanliness of the test
4. Perceived low risk of bowel cancer
4. Without health care setting the test reduces in seriousness/credibility
5. Low health literacy and numeracy
6. Males less likely to take part in screening
7. Lower socioeconomic group
